MSHA announces results of December impact inspections
Participant: Mine Safety and Health Administration
Description: The Mine Safety and Health Administration today announced that federal inspectors issued 117 citations and four orders during special impact inspections conducted at 10 coal mines and two metal and nonmetal mines in December.
Background: The monthly inspections, which began in force in April 2010, involve mines that merit increased agency attention and enforcement due to their poor compliance history or particular compliance concerns. Since April 2010, MSHA has conducted 863 impact inspections and issued 13,580 citations, 1,221 orders and 55 safeguards.
Impact inspections were conducted at mines in Arizona, Kentucky, Illinois, Maryland, Puerto Rico, Virginia and West Virginia.
