U.S. Department of Labor to Award $5 Million Grant to Economically Empower Vulnerable Women and Girls in the Agriculture Sector in Colombia

WASHINGTON, DC – The U.S. Department of Labor today announced its intent to award a $5 million grant for a project to economically empower vulnerable women and girls in the agricultural sector in Colombia, as part of the administration's support of the Women's Global Development and Prosperity Initiative (W-GDP).

The project will work to improve economic participation in quality jobs by women and adolescent girls vulnerable to child labor, forced labor, and/or other violations of labor rights. Activities will also focus on improving practices by government and private sector actors to reduce vulnerability of these women and girls.

The grant will be made available through the Bureau of International Labor Affairs, whose mission is to promote a fair global playing field for workers in the U.S. and around the world by enforcing trade commitments, strengthening labor standards, and combating international child labor, forced labor, and human trafficking.
