US Labor Department extends deadline for comments
on labor capacity-building efforts under CAFTA-DR
WASHINGTON — The U.S. Department of Labor is extending the public comment period on labor capacity-building efforts under the Dominican Republic-Central America-United States Free Trade Agreement until 11:59 p.m. EST on Friday, Nov. 28. The original deadline established for receipt of public comments was 11:59 p.m. EST on Monday, Nov. 10.
The Labor Department issued a Federal Register Notice on Tuesday, Oct. 28, asking the public for comments to contribute to a biennial report to Congress on labor capacity-building efforts under the CAFTA-DR. The report will include a summary of public comments on:
- the labor capacity-building efforts under Chapter 16 ("the Labor Chapter") and Annex 16.5 of CAFTA-DR and
- efforts made by CAFTA-DR countries to implement the labor obligations under the Labor Chapter and recommendations contained in a paper entitled, The Labor Dimension in Central America and the Dominican Republic — Building on Progress: Strengthening Compliance and Enhancing Capacity.
A new Federal Register Notice will officially announce the extension. While submissions may be submitted by mail to Mr. James Rude, Office of Trade and Labor Affairs, Bureau of International Labor Affairs, U.S. Department of Labor, 200 Constitution Avenue NW, Room S-5303, Washington, DC 20210, the public is encouraged to make submissions using http://www.regulations.gov/#!documentDetail;D=DOL-2014-0005-0001.
