U.S. Department Of Labor Awards Dislocated Worker Grant to New Jersey in Response to Opioid Crisis

WASHINGTON, DC – The U.S. Department of Labor today announced an opioid crisis National Health Emergency Dislocated Worker Grant for up to $9,000,000, with $3,000,000 released initially, to the New Jersey Department of Labor and Workforce Development. The grant will support disaster-relief jobs and provide employment services to eligible individuals in New Jersey communities affected by the health and economic effects of widespread opioid use, addiction, and overdoses.

The previous week's level was revised down by 8,000 from 5,245,000 to 5,237,000. The 4-week moving average was 5,786,500, an increase of 280,000 from the previous week's revised average. The previous week's average was revised down by 2,000 from 5,508,500 to 5,506,500.

WASHINGTON, DC – The U.S. Department of Labor today announced the award of the first installment of 26 Dislocated Worker Grants (DWGs) totaling $131,384,557 to help address the workforce-related impacts of the coronavirus public health emergency. These awards are funded under the Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security (CARES) Act, which provided $345 million for DWGs to prevent, prepare for and respond to coronavirus.

This is the highest level for this average since January 27, 2018 when it was 234,500. The previous week's average was revised up by 1,750 from 214,000 to 215,750.

U.S. Department of Labor Announces Temporary Pause In Job Corps Center Operations

WASHINGTON, DC – The U.S. Department of Labor today announced that it is initiating a break for students at the 121 Job Corps centers located in each of the 50 states, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico. In light of the COVID-19 public health emergency and guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the Department is acting to protect the health and safety of its tens of thousands of students and staff across the country. There is no evidence of any suspected or confirmed cases of COVID-19 in any Job Corps center at this time.
