US Department of Labor announces grant increment to continue assisting workers affected by closure of Cessna Aircraft facility in Bend, Ore.

WASHINGTON – The U.S. Department of Labor today announced a $279,373 National Emergency Grant increment to continue to provide re-employment and training services to about 280 workers affected by layoffs at the Cessna Aircraft Co. facility located in Bend, Ore.

Secretary of Labor Hilda L. Solis announces H-1B technical skills training grant competition

WASHINGTON – Secretary of Labor Hilda L. Solis today announced the availability of approximately $240 million through the H-1B technical skills training grant competition. The U.S. Department of Labor expects to fund 75-100 grants through a single solicitation. Individual grants will range from $1 million to $5 million and will be distributed through two rounds of funding. The projects to be funded will help workers update current skills or acquire new ones so they can enter career pathways leading to higher-paying jobs.

US Department of Labor announces additional funding for 18 organizations to help former offenders gain job skills

WASHINGTON – The U.S. Department of Labor today announces the award of approximately $7.2 million in funds for 18 third-generation grantees to continue assistance for adult offenders who are returning to communities from incarceration. The purpose of these grants is to provide an employment-centered approach to reintegration that improves long-term labor market prospects for former offenders.

US Labor Department announces grant to provide training and employment services to workers affected by layoffs from Mohegan Sun in Uncasville, Conn.

WASHINGTON – The U.S. Department of Labor today announced a $335,400 National Emergency Grant to assist about 100 workers affected by layoffs at the Mohegan Sun Casino in Uncasville, Conn., which occurred in September 2010.

"The Labor Department is committed to helping all Americans who have lost jobs through no fault of their own," said Secretary of Labor Hilda L. Solis. "This grant will provide training and other services to help dislocated workers prepare for good jobs in Connecticut's growing industries."

WASHINGTON – The U.S. Department of Labor has announced a $284,023 National Emergency Grant to assist recovery efforts following the March 11 tsunami wave surge. The companies from which workers have been laid off represent a variety of industries, including construction, mining, auto parts, computer/IT services, trucking, manufacturing, tax services, education, health, law, banking, retail and pharmacy, among others.
