WASHINGTON, DC – Today the U.S. Department of Labor announced that the fifth annual National Apprenticeship Week (NAW) will be held from November 11-17, 2019.

Established by the U.S. Department of Labor, NAW is a nationwide celebration that brings together business leaders, labor, educational institutions, and Americans interested in apprenticeships to showcase the impact apprenticeship programs have on closing the U.S. skills gap and preparing the American workforce for the jobs of today and tomorrow.

In the week ending September 7, the advance figure for seasonally adjusted initial claims was 204,000, a decrease of 15,000 from the previous week's revised level. The previous week's level was revised up by 2,000 from 217,000 to 219,000. The 4-week moving average was 212,500, a decrease of 4,250 from the previous week's revised average. WASHINGTON, DC – The U.S. Department of Labor today announced National Dislocated Worker Grant funding of $372,945 to the Massachusetts Executive Office of Labor and Workforce Development to provide reemployment services to individuals impacted by the closure of the Weetabix cereal manufacturing facility in Clinton, Massachusetts, operated by Post Holdings Inc.

WASHINGTON, DC – The U.S. Department of Labor today announced an opioid-crisis Dislocated Worker Grant (DWG) to the Connecticut Department of Labor for up to $4,757,845, with $1,585,948 released initially. This grant will provide disaster-relief jobs and employment services to eligible individuals in Connecticut affected by the health and economic effects of widespread opioid use, addiction, and overdose.

WASHINGTON, DC – The U.S. Department of Labor today approved National Disaster Recovery National Dislocated Worker Grant (NDWG) funding of up to $2,420,000, with $806,667 released initially, to the Missouri Division of Workforce Development to assess workforce needs in response to severe storms and flooding in March and April 2019.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The U.S. Department of Labor has awarded nearly $1.5 million in grant funding to organizations in Illinois, Virginia, and Wisconsin to help recruit, train, and retain more women in quality pre-apprenticeship and apprenticeship programs. This funding assists with the assessment of workforce needs in response to the storms and flooding of May 2019.

WASHINGTON, DC – The U.S. Department of Labor today signed a bi-lateral cooperative agreement with Guatemala to facilitate increased transparency, accountability, and worker safety in the H-2A nonimmigrant visa program for temporary agricultural workers from Guatemala.

WASHINGTON, DC – The U.S. Department of Labor today approved additional funding of $800,000 for a Disaster Recovery National Dislocated Worker Grant (DWG) awarded to Workforce West Virginia in response to severe storms in February 2018. This additional funding brings the total DWG funds awarded for this project to $1,633,325.
