U.S. Department of Labor Awards Up to $85 Million In Youthbuild Grants to 67 Grantees

WASHINGTON, DC –The U.S. Department of Labor today announced the award of 67 grants totaling up to $85 million to support and expand YouthBuild programs across the country. YouthBuild provides at-risk youth, ages 16-24, with education and occupational skill development to obtain employment in construction and other in-demand industries.

This is the highest level for initial claims since September 30, 2017 when it was 257,000. The 4-week moving average was 224,000, an increase of 6,250 from the previous week's unrevised average of 217,750.

U.S. Department of Labor Announces Record-High Number Of Apprentices for Fiscal Year 2019

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, the U.S. Department of Labor's Employment and Training Administration announced a record-high number of more than 250,000 new apprentices in Fiscal Year 2019, including over 80,000 new apprentices in the last quarter of FY 2019 – a new quarterly record high. The fourth quarter approximate total is 10% more than the fourth quarter of FY 2018, and 37% more than the fourth quarter of FY 2017.

Since the start of 2017, there have been 655,444 new apprentices.

U.S. Department of Labor Awards $1.5 Million in Additional Disaster Recovery Funding to Ohio in Response to Severe Storms and Flooding

WASHINGTON, DC – The U.S. Department of Labor today announced additional funding of $1,560,000 for a Disaster Recovery National Dislocated Worker Grant awarded to the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services. U.S. Department of Labor Announces Funding Opportunities To Serve Job Corps-Eligible Youth

WASHINGTON, DC – The U.S. Department of Labor today released a Funding Opportunity Announcement for its Job Corps Scholars Program demonstration project. Through the program, the Department intends to competitively award up to 20 grants to accredited, two-year, public community colleges; accredited, public two- and four-year historically black colleges and universities (HBCU); and accredited tribally controlled colleges and universities (TCCU) to serve Job Corps-eligible youth and young adults 16 to 24 years of age.
