US Department of Labor awards over $1.5M to continue employment, training services for Fort Bliss service members, spouses transitioning from military

WASHINGTON – The U.S. Department of Labor today announced an incremental award of more than $1.5 million to support employment and training services for transitioning military service members and their spouses at and around the U.S. Army’s Fort Bliss installation near El Paso, Texas. 

In March 2023, the department announced the award of a National Dislocated Worker Grant of up to $4,693,580 – with an initial award of $1,564,527 – to enable Texas to provide services for eligible transitioning service members in El Paso County. 

The incremental award announced today will allow Workforce Solutions Borderplex Inc. to continue providing employment and training services to those in the El Paso area transitioning from military service. One of Texas’ 28 public workforce development boards, Workforce Solutions Borderplex receives funding support from the departments of Labor and Health and Human Services and serves the six-county Borderplex region.

The department’s Employment and Training Administration oversees Service Member National Dislocated Worker Grants, which provide resources to a state or local board for communities experiencing higher than average demand for services from transitioning military service members and spouses. National Dislocated Worker Grants are supported by the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act of 2014.
