US Department of Labor awards $68M in grants for training, reemployment, supportive services to unemployed, underemployed workers
WASHINGTON – The U.S. Department of Labor today announced the award of nearly $68 million in grant funding to help 29 organizations in 20 states and territories connect job seekers to employment as the economy continues its recovery from the impacts of the coronavirus pandemic. The grant awards are part of a total $90 million in funding announced on Aug. 19, 2021.
Administered by the department’s Employment and Training Administration, Comprehensive and Accessible Reemployment through Equitable Employment Recovery National Dislocated Worker Grants support organizations serving individuals most affected by the economic and employment fallout from the coronavirus pandemic, in particular those from historically marginalized communities or groups.
CAREER National Dislocated Worker Grants fund a range of reemployment services that support job seekers with search assistance, career guidance and childcare and transportation costs. Recipients may deliver training services in classroom, virtual or work-based settings. They may also use grants to develop or upgrade virtual services, online platforms, data structures and other technological improvements to enable accessibility and capacity to support job seekers.
The department announced the award of the initial $22 million in CAREER National Dislocated Worker Grants on Aug. 25, 2021. It is now announcing a second round totaling $24 million awarded on Sept. 17, 2021, and a third round totaling $44 million awarded Sept. 27, 2021.
Supported by the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act, National Dislocated Worker Grants provide resources to states and communities to respond to and recover from events that cause widespread unemployment.
