U.S. Department of Labor Awards $1.5 Million in Additional Disaster Recovery Funding to Ohio in Response to Severe Storms and Flooding

WASHINGTON, DC – The U.S. Department of Labor today announced additional funding of $1,560,000 for a Disaster Recovery National Dislocated Worker Grant awarded to the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services. The funds will allow the state to complete remaining disaster-relief recovery efforts in response to severe storms impacting southeastern counties in February 2018.

After the Federal Emergency Management Agency issued a major disaster declaration in April 2018, the Department approved a Dislocated Worker Grant for up to $9,450,000, with an initial release of $3,150,000. An additional increment of $3,150,000 followed in March 2019 to continue the disaster-relief efforts. Today’s award brings total funding for this project to $7,860,000.

Supported by the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act of 2014, Dislocated Worker Grants temporarily expand the service capacity of dislocated worker training and employment programs at the state and local levels by providing funding assistance in response to large, unexpected economic events that cause significant job losses.
