U.S. Department of Labor Awards $1.9 Million Dislocated Worker Grant to West Kentucky Workforce Development Board After Manufacturing Layoffs

WASHINGTON, DC – The U.S. Department of Labor today announced the award of $1,994,444 in National Dislocated Worker Grant funding to the West Kentucky Workforce Development Board to provide reemployment services to individuals impacted by the closure of an engine manufacturing facility owned by the Briggs & Stratton Corporation, located in Murray, Kentucky.

The Dislocated Worker Grant will allow for the immediate provision of the full complement of Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act employment and training services to workers affected by layoffs beginning in October 2019 and continuing through September 2020.

Supported by the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act of 2014, Dislocated Worker Grants temporarily expand the service capacity of dislocated worker programs at the state and local levels by providing funding assistance in response to large, unexpected economic events that cause significant job losses.
