U.S. Department of Labor Awards Dislocated Worker Grant To Massachusetts after Closing of Pilgrim Nuclear Power Station

WASHINGTON, DC – The U.S. Department of Labor today announced National Dislocated Worker Grant (DWG) funding of $503,079, awarded to the Massachusetts Executive Office of Labor and Workforce Development to provide reemployment services to individuals impacted by the closure of the Pilgrim Nuclear Power Station, owned by Entergy Nuclear Operations, Inc., in Plymouth, Massachusetts.

With these funds, the Commonwealth will provide career services such as career planning, comprehensive assessments, resume writing, and job placement to workers laid off in June 2019.  All workers affected by the plant closure have been certified as eligible for Trade Adjustment Assistance, enabling them to seek training and supportive services in preparation for reemployment.

Supported by the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act of 2014, Dislocated Worker Grants temporarily expand the service capacity of dislocated worker programs at the state and local levels by providing funding assistance in response to large, unexpected economic events that cause significant job losses.

The mission of the Department of Labor is to foster, promote, and develop the welfare of the wage earners, job seekers, and retirees of the United States; improve working conditions; advance opportunities for profitable employment; and assure work-related benefits and rights.
