US Labor Department awards $2.2M in incremental funding for clean-up, recovery efforts in Missouri after severe summer 2015 storms

Use of Funds: On Sept. 10, 2015, the U.S. Department of Labor approved a National Dislocated Worker Grant award for up to $3,280,823, with $1,003,000 released initially, to create temporary jobs for eligible individuals to assist with clean-up and recovery efforts after severe storms in Missouri which occurred across the state between May 15 and June 27, 2015.

The project’s recovery activities target Barry, Benton, Douglas, Hickory, Laclede, Lincoln, Miller, Montgomery, Osage, Ozark, Ray, Saline, Shannon, Ste. Genevieve, Texas, Washington and Wright counties.

With this incremental award, the Missouri Division of Workforce Development will receive $2,277,823 to continue this recovery effort, bringing the total funds awarded to date for this project to its fully approved amount of $3,280,823.

Background: Supported by the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act of 2014, NDWGs temporarily expand the service capacity of dislocated worker training and employment programs at the state and local levels by providing funding assistance in response to large, unexpected economic events which cause significant job losses. NDWGs generally provide resources to states and local workforce investment boards to reemploy laid-off workers quickly by offering training to increase occupational skills.
