GetMyFuture.org the latest enhancement to US Department of Labor’s CareerOneStop site to help young people enter the job market
WASHINGTON – The U.S. Department of Labor today announced the launch of GetMyFuture.org, a mobile-friendly web application that helps youth plan their careers, explore education and training options, and search and apply for jobs. The app is one of many resources found at CareerOneStop, a website to help people plan and achieve their career, education, and employment goals.
Developed with input from young adults and program providers, GetMyFuture.org includes career interest assessments, interactive informational videos, job search engines, and tips and best practices. The app also connects young people to in-person career services and resources to overcome the challenges of addiction; homelessness; criminal conviction; or a lack of financial, family or community support.
“As part of the Obama administration’s sustained efforts to break down barriers and expand opportunities for young people, GetMyFuture.org places job resources and workforce services at their fingertips,” said Assistant Secretary of Labor for Employment and Training Portia Wu. “These tools allow young people to harness the power of technology to access information to jumpstart their careers and improve their lives.”
The GetMyFuture app enhances the existing CareerOneStop site, which receives more than two million visits each month, by increasing accessibility to disconnected young people and providing new customized content for those seeking career services.
The app launch is part of the first-ever White House foster care and technology hackathon. This two-day event during National Foster Care Month brings together child welfare leaders, non-profit organizations, philanthropic organizations, foster care families, as well as engineers, technologists, and other leaders from the technology sector. During the hackathon, participants will discuss ways to use technology and apply best practices to improve the foster care system.
These efforts align closely with one of the key life milestones in President Obama’s “My Brother’s Keeper” initiative that seeks to close opportunity gaps faced by too many young people – often boys and young men of color. The department created GetMyFuture.org to help young people get the tools and opportunities they need to enter the workforce successfully.
Sponsored by the department, Career One Stop is a mobile-friendly website with easy-to-use tools, information, videos, links to resources, and more to help young adults explore career options, learn about education and training opportunities, and find a job.
