Use of Funds: The U.S. Department of Labor has awarded $2,045,788 in Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act National Dislocated Worker Grant funding to the Arkansas Department of Workforce Services to assist with clean-up and recovery efforts after severe winter storms, tornadoes, straight-line winds and flooding in Arkansas that occurred between Dec. 26, 2015, and Jan. 22, 2016. The project targets Benton, Boone, Carroll, Independence, Izard, Madison, Marion, Searcy, Stone, White and Woodruff counties. Funds will provide temporary employment on projects to assist with clean up, demolition, repair, renovation and reconstruction of destroyed public structures, facilities and lands within the affected communities. They will also provide for the delivery of humanitarian aid and safety assistance, if needed. Funds may also provide for work on the homes of economically disadvantaged individuals eligible for the federally funded weatherization program. The elderly and individuals with disabilities will have priority for this work.
