Use of Funds: The U.S. Department of Labor has awarded $625,000 in Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act, National Dislocated Worker Grant funding to the Texas Workforce Commission to assist with clean-up and recovery efforts after severe winter storms, tornadoes, straight-line winds and flooding in Dallas County. Funds will provide workers for temporary employment to assist in clean up, demolition, repair, renovation and reconstruction of destroyed public structures, facilities and lands in the affected communities. Workers will also deliver humanitarian aid and provide safety assistance, if needed. The grant may also fund workers to perform weatherization work on the homes of economically disadvantaged individuals eligible in the federal weatherization program. The elderly and individuals with disabilities have priority for weatherization.
