Additional funding awarded to Texas to continue reemployment assistance
to workers affected by the closure of a Cargill beef processing facility

WASHINGTON — The U.S. Department of Labor today announced a $953,415 National Emergency Grant incremental award so that approximately 405 workers affected by the closure of a Cargill Meat Solutions beef processing plant located in Plainview, Texas, can continue receiving re-employment services. These funds are being awarded to the Texas Workforce Commission.

"Many of those laid off continue to face great difficulty finding a job that will support themselves and their families," said Portia Wu, assistant secretary of labor for employment and training. "This federal National Emergency Grant, combined with the Trade Adjustment Assistance program, will provide these workers with the reemployment services they need to prepare them for new opportunities in high-demand industries."

On June 19, 2013, this National Emergency Grant was approved for up to $2,066,314, with $1,112,899 released initially. Today's incremental funding of $953,415 will bring the total amount awarded for this project to $2,066,314.

National Emergency Grants are part of the secretary of labor's discretionary fund and are awarded based on a state's ability to meet specific guidelines.
