Maine workers affected by layoffs at Lincoln Paper and Tissue will receive funding for re-employment services from US Labor Department

WASHINGTON — The U.S. Department of Labor today announced a $256,696 grant to assist approximately 100 workers impacted by layoffs at Lincoln Paper and Tissue LLC located in Lincoln, Maine.

"These layoffs have had a significant impact on an area already suffering from high unemployment," said Acting Assistant Secretary of Labor for Employment and Training Eric M. Seleznow. "This National Emergency Grant will provide the workers affected by these layoffs with the critical services needed in order for them to succeed in finding new employment."

This grant, awarded to the Maine Department of Labor, will be used to help the affected workers access the supportive services they need to successfully complete training and find gainful employment. Training for occupations in high-demand industries, such as those in the construction, energy, health care and transportation sectors, will be funded through the Trade Adjustment Assistance program.

National Emergency Grants are part of the secretary of labor's discretionary fund and are awarded based on a state's ability to meet specific guidelines.
