Additional funding awarded to West Virginia
to continue clean-up efforts following severe storms and flooding

WASHINGTON — WorkForce West Virginia received a $203,940 National Emergency Grant supplemental award today from the U.S. Department of Labor to continue temporary employment opportunities as West Virginia completes its clean-up efforts following severe storms and flooding that occurred on June 13, 2013.

"West Virginia still has a long road left in its recovery from the damage caused by last summer's storms and flooding," said Portia Wu, assistant secretary of labor for employment and training. "This additional federal funding will help the state in its ongoing clean-up efforts, while also providing temporary jobs for those in need of employment."

This grant was initially approved on Aug. 16, 2013, for $250,000, following the Federal Emergency Management Agency's declaration that certain West Virginia counties were eligible for public assistance. This supplemental funding of $203,940 brings the total funds awarded for this project to $453,940.
