US Department of Labor announces continued assistance for workers impacted by layoffs in Tulare County, Calif.

WASHINGTON – The U.S. Department of Labor today announced a $3,435,544 National Emergency Grant increment to continue to provide re-employment and training services to workers affected by layoffs in Tulare County, Calif. Funding will help workers prepare for careers in growing areas of the regional economy including agribusiness, renewable energy, supply chain logistics, health care and advanced manufacturing.

"This grant increment will ensure that these workers continue to have the support they need to prepare for good jobs," said Secretary of Labor Hilda L. Solis. "The Labor Department is committed to helping these workers build up their skills and knowledge, and in doing so, rebuild the economy of the San Joaquin Valley."

A grant was approved for up to $8,197,664 on March 19, 2010, with $4,762,120 released initially, to serve workers in 14 counties in the San Joaquin Valley region: Amador, Calaveras, Fresno, Inyo, Kern, Kings, Madera, Mariposa, Merced, Mono, San Joaquin, Stanislaus, Tulare and Tuolumne. This second increment, awarded to Tulare County, completes the total funding amount awarded.
