US Department of Labor provides grant to continue assistance to workers affected by layoffs at 9 companies in Massachusetts

WASHINGTON – The U.S. Department of Labor today announced a $1,412,754 National Emergency Grant increment to continue training and re-employment services to about 600 workers affected by layoffs at nine companies in the metro south/west region of Massachusetts representing the information, manufacturing, retail and transportation industries.

The companies are ACT Electronics Inc., Altus Pharmaceuticals Inc., Bose Corp., DHL, EMC Corp., Sepracor Inc., Snap-on Inc., Staples Inc. and Taylor Corp. They are located in the counties of Middlesex, Norfolk, Suffolk and Worcester.

"This grant will provide important training and employment services to workers who have lost their jobs through no fault of their own," said Secretary of Labor Hilda L. Solis. "The Labor Department is committed to helping these workers prepare for and obtain jobs in growing industries."

On Oct. 21, 2009, the commonwealth of Massachusetts was approved for up to $3,319,718, with $1,906,964 released initially. Today's increment completes the award.
