US Department of Labor announces $1.4 million grant to assist dislocated workers in Wisconsin

WASHINGTON – The U.S. Department of Labor today announced a $1,377,250 grant to assist about 1,680 dislocated workers who either are currently receiving intensive services and training from the state of Wisconsin or are on waiting lists due to funding shortages.

"This grant will ensure that more than 1,600 workers in Wisconsin, who lost their jobs through no fault of their own and are currently on waiting lists for re-employment and re-training services, will be able to receive the kind of help they need and deserve," said Secretary of Labor Hilda L. Solis.

Awarded to the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development, this grant will be operated by the Bay Area Workforce Development Board Inc.; the Fox Valley Workforce Development Board; the North Central Wisconsin Workforce Development Board; the Northwest Wisconsin CEP Inc.; the Southwest Wisconsin Workforce Development Board; and Workforce Connections Inc.

The grant will allow the state to provide affected workers with dislocated worker services such as skills assessment, basic skills training, individual career counseling and occupational skills training.
