US Department of Labor's ERISA Advisory Council to hold public meeting Aug. 28-30
WASHINGTON — The U.S. Department of Labor's Advisory Council on Employee Welfare and Pension Benefit Plans, also known as the ERISA Advisory Council, will meet Aug. 28-30 at Labor Department headquarters, 200 Constitution Ave. NW, Washington, D.C. 20210, in Room C5521-4. The meeting will run from 9 a.m. to approximately 5 p.m. on Aug. 28 and 29, and from 8:30 a.m. to approximately 4:30 p.m. on Aug. 30.
The purpose of the meeting is for advisory council members to hear testimony from invited witnesses and to receive an update from Deputy Assistant Secretary of Labor for Employee Benefits Security Michael L. Davis. The council is studying the following issues: managing disability risks in an environment of individual responsibility; current challenges and best practices concerning beneficiary designations in retirement and life insurance plans; and examining income replacement during retirement years in a defined contribution plan system. The ERISA Advisory Council consists of 15 members appointed to staggered three-year terms by the secretary of labor. The members represent the general public, employers and employee organizations, as well as the fields of insurance, corporate trust, investment management, investment counseling, accounting and actuarial counseling.
