U.S. Department of Labor to offer free health law seminar January 28 and 29 in Tallahassee, Florida

Tallahassee, Florida – A free health law compliance assistance seminar for employers, plan fiduciaries and plan services providers, sponsored by the U.S. Department of Labor’s Employee Benefits Security Administration (EBSA) and the Florida Office of Insurance Regulation, will take place January 28 and 29 at the Doubletree Hotel Tallahassee, 101 South Adams St. in Tallahassee.
Sessions will cover the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and other federal laws under Part 7 of the Employee Retirement Income Security Act. Information also will be presented on fiduciary responsibility, the Consolidated Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act (COBRA), the Family and Medical Leave Act, HIPAA privacy and the Uniformed Services Employment and Re-employment Rights Act. Panelists will include representatives of EBSA, the Labor Department’s Employment Standards Administration and Veterans’ Employment and Training Service, the Florida Department of Insurance, the Internal Revenue Service and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
The seminar is part of EBSA’s health education campaign to help workers and employers, especially small employers, understand their rights and obligations under various health benefit laws.
