U.S. Department of Labor’s ERISA advisory council working groups to hold teleconferences October 16

Washington – The three working groups of the Advisory Council on Employee Welfare and Pension Benefit Plans (known as the ERISA Advisory Council) will convene by teleconference October 16 to discuss reports and recommendations to be submitted to the secretary of labor.

The teleconferences will be initiated from the U.S. Department of Labor, Room C5515A, 200 Constitution Avenue, NW, Washington, D.C.

Working group meetings will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. EDT and will begin with the Working Group on Financial Literacy, followed by the Working Group on Participant Benefit Statements, and concluding with the Working Group on Fiduciary Responsibilities Update and Revenue Sharing.

All meetings of the working groups are open to the public. Public comments may be submitted by October 9 to Larry Good, the council’s executive secretary. Questions about the meetings or requests to address the advisory council should be directed to Good by telephone at 202.693.8668.

The advisory council – established by the Employee Retirement Income Security Act (ERISA) – consists of 15 members appointed to staggered three-year terms by the secretary of labor to provide advice on policies and regulations affecting employee benefit plans sponsored by private sector employers. The members represent the general public, employers, employee organizations and the fields of insurance, corporate trust, investment management, investment counseling, accounting and actuarial counseling.
