Archived News Release — Caution: Information may be out of date.

Miami – The U.S. Department of Labor’s Employee Benefits Security Administration (EBSA) will provide free training to employers regarding the Consolidated Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act (COBRA) and the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) regulations on Friday, August 17, at the Florida Agency for Workforce Innovation West Dade One-Stop Career Center in Miami.

“This free training is a great opportunity for employers to learn about COBRA/HIPAA notice and disclosure rules,” said Howard Marsh, director of EBSA’s Atlanta Regional Office. “Employers will learn about common mistakes and can verify that they are in compliance with the rules.”

Topics to be covered include the new COBRA Notice Requirements and HIPAA’s Special Enrollment Rights. EBSA benefits advisors will be on site to address specific questions and provide printed materials.

The presentation will not include the HIPAA Privacy Rules administered by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

Registration for the workshop is limited to 25 attendees. If more people express interest, depending upon the volume of demand, additional workshops may be added.
