U.S. Department of Labor offers free health law seminar August 28 and 29 in Casper, Wyoming

Casper, Wyoming – A free health law compliance assistance seminar, sponsored by the U.S. Department of Labor’s Employee Benefits Security Administration (EBSA) and the Wyoming Insurance Department, will take place August 28 and 29 at the Best Western Ramkota Hotel, 800 N. Poplar Street in Casper.

The seminar is part of the Labor Department’s Health Benefits Education Campaign, which helps workers and employers, especially small businesses, understand their rights and obligations under various health benefit laws. Sessions will cover the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), including privacy, and other federal laws under Part 7 of the Employee Retirement Income Security Act. Information also will be presented on fiduciary responsibility, the Consolidated Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act (COBRA), the Family and Medical Leave Act, and health savings accounts.

Panelists will include representatives from EBSA, the Labor Department’s Employment Standards Administration, the Wyoming Insurance Department, the Internal Revenue Service and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

Seminar attendees will receive the booklet Health Benefits Coverage Under Federal Law and other materials. The booklet also is available online at www.dol.gov/ebsa/pdf/CAGtableofcontents.pdf.
