U.S. Department of Labor Official Testifies Before House Subcommittee on Administration's FY 2008 Budget Request for Employee Benefits Security

Washington - Bradford P. Campbell, acting assistant secretary of labor for the Employee Benefits Security Administration (EBSA), today testified before the House of Representatives Subcommittee on Labor, Health and Human Services, Education and Related Agencies about EBSA's fiscal year 2008 budget request. Campbell's testimony focused on priorities in regulatory, enforcement and outreach programs to protect the employment-based benefits of American workers and retirees and their families.

"This budget reflects the strong commitment of the Bush Administration to improving the lives of America's working families by protecting their employee benefits and retirement security," Campbell said.

In his testimony, Campbell discussed key elements of EBSA's budget priorities and policy initiatives, including:

  • Development of some 25 regulatory initiatives to implement provisions of the Pension Protection Act that are designed to help millions of Americans achieve a financially secure retirement.

  • Increased funding to improve electronic filing, processing and disclosure of Form 5500 financial reports by employee benefit plans.

  • Expanded access to quality, affordable health care coverage.
