Media Advisory - HIPAA and Other Health Laws: Mississippi Compliance Assistance Seminar

Jackson, Mississippi - The Compliance Assistance Seminar sponsored by the U.S. Department of Labor’s Employee Benefits Security Administration (EBSA) and the Mississippi Department of Insurance, will take place August 17-18, 2005 in Jackson, Mississippi at the Edison Walthall Hotel, 225 East Capitol Street.
The Mississippi seminar is part of a series of ongoing seminars sponsored by the Labor Department under its Health Benefits Education Campaign (HBEC). The campaign helps workers and employers, especially small businesses, understand their rights and obligations under various health benefit laws.
As part of the department’s HIPAA Compliance Assistance Program (H-CAP), there will be sessions covering Part 7 of the Employee Retirement Income Security Act. Information also will be presented on fiduciary responsibility, COBRA, Family and Medical Leave Act, health savings accounts and HIPAA privacy.
Panel participants will include representatives from the Labor Department’s EBSA, the department’s Employment Standards Administration, the Mississippi Department of Insurance, the Internal Revenue Service and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
