U.S. Labor Department Extends Comment Period Two Weeks for Pending Exemptions

Archived News Release — Caution: Information may be out of date.

Washington, DC - The U.S. Department of Labor’s Pension and Welfare Benefits Administration today extended for two weeks the period for receipt of comments for a number of class and individual exemptions currently under consideration.

The department’s action was taken because no written comments were delivered during the period of October 22 and November 26 when the Department of Labor mailroom was closed as a precautionary measure during the recent anthrax scare.

The affected exemptions are listed in the department’s Federal Register notice today, including a proposed amendment to an existing class exemption allowing plans to receive interest free loans and extensions of credit from related parties.
