ERISA Advisory Council Selects Study Topics

The Advisory Committee on Employee Welfare and Pension Plans will hold organizational meetings of new working groups on April 9 and 10. The meetings will take place in Conference Room N-5437 at the U.S. Department of Labor, 200 Constitution Avenue, NW, Washington, DC.

The new working group studying increasing pension plan coverage, participation and savings will meet on Monday, April 9, at 9:30 a.m. Heading the group will be James S. Ray, the Ray Law Firm of Alexandria, Virginia as chair and Judith Mazo, The Segal Company of Washington, DC as vice chair.

Chairing the working group on preparing for retirement will be Thomas M. McMahon, Pacific Maritime Association of San Francisco. Vice chair is Norman S. Stein, law professor at the University of Alabama at Tuscaloosa. This group will convene at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, April 9.

The third working group, looking at challenges of the employment-based healthcare system, will be chaired by Carl Camden, Kelly Services, Inc. of Troy, Michigan and Ronnie Susan Thierman of William M. Mercer, San Francisco. The session will begin at 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday, April 9.

If written statements are to be provided, 20 copies must be sent to Ms. Morrissey before April 1.

The ERISA Advisory Council members typically are experienced ERISA professionals representing various sectors of the employee benefits world. The Council plans on presenting their reports/recommendations to the Secretary of Labor by November 14.
