Public Disclosure Office For Labor Department's Pension And Welfare Benefits Administration Moves

Archived News Release — Caution: Information may be out of date.

The Public Disclosure Room for the Pension and Welfare Benefits Administration, U.S. Department of Labor, will close from Dec. 15 to Dec. 18, to relocate staff and equipment. The PWBA Public Disclosure Room will reopen Dec. 19 in its new location in Room N-1513, Frances Perkins Building, 200 Constitution Ave. NW, Washington, DC 20210.

The public disclosure phone number will remain (202)219-8771, and its office hours will remain 8:30 a.m. (EST) to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. The office assists interested parties in searching and retrieving Form 5500 Annual Report Forms filed by private sector pension and welfare plans and in obtaining Summary Plan Descriptions.

The Public Disclosure Office has access to approximately 700,000 Form 5500 Annual Reports for pension plans and more than 2,6 million welfare plans, all of which have been computerized since 1992.

Hard copies of several other documents promulgated by the agency are also available through this entity. They include: exemption determinations, advisory opinions, M-1 Forms, Investment Advisor Registrations, comment letters for various proposed regulations and more recent years’ Working Group Reports of the Advisory Committee on Employee Welfare and Pension Plans.

“We try to fill all requests on a first come, first served basis,” said Sharon Watson, whose office oversees the Public Disclosure Office contractor. “It helps our staff to more quickly locate materials if the requestors provide the name of the plan, name of the employer and employer identification and plan number, if possible.”
