Information On Health Benefits Available In Spanish

The Pension and Welfare Benefits Administration is making available in Spanish three of its popular publications on consumer health benefit protections. The brochures alert consumers and their families to the need to make informed decisions about their health benefits.

Top 10 Ways to Make Your Health Benefits Work for You (Las 10 mejores maneras de hacer que sus beneficios medicos funcionen para usted) urges consumers to review the health benefit options offered by their employers; consider the quality, not just the cost, when choosing health care services; and know how to file an appeal if benefits are denied.

It is complemented by two additional brochures. Life Changes Require Health Choices ... Know Your Benefit Options (Los cambios de vida requieren tomar decisiones medicas ... Conozca sus opciones de beneficios) encourages consumers to review their health benefit coverage to make sure they have the level of health care coverage needed at every stage of life. Life events, such as marriage, childbirth, separate and divorce, usually signal the need to review health benefit plans.

Work Changes Require Health Choices ... Protect Your Rights (Los cambios de condicion laboral requieren hacer elecciones medicas ... Proteja sus derechos) describes the laws that can help consumers and their families when they switch jobs or suffer job loss. Under some circumstances, consumers may be able to purchase extended health coverage.

The three brochures are products of the Health Benefits Education Campaign, launched in December 1998 to help workers in job-based health plans make informed health benefit decisions.
