The Advisory Council on Employee Welfare and Pension Benefit Plans and its working groups will hold public meetings on Nov.12 and 13 in Conference Room C-5521, Seminar Room 4, at the U.S. Department of Labor, 200 Constitution Avenue, N.W., Washington, D.C.

On Nov. 12, the Working Group Studying the Merits of Defined Contribution vs. Defined Benefit Plans will meet from 9:30 to noon to finalize its report and recommendations for the Secretary of Labor, particularly regarding the formation of defined benefit plans for small businesses.

From 1 to 3:30 p.m. on Nov. 12, the Working Group Studying Employer assets in ERISA (Employee Retirement Income Security Act) Employer-Sponsored Plans will meet to finish its report on employer assets in ERISA employer-sponsored plans.

On Nov. 13, the Working Group Studying Soft Dollar Arrangements and Commission Recapture will meet from 9:30 a.m. to noon to finalize its report and recommendations for the secretary.

From 1 to 2:30 p.m. on Nov. 13, the full Advisory Council will hold its 100th public meeting to receive from working group chairs and vice chairs their final reports and recommendations.

Individuals or organizations wishing to address the council should submit 20 copies of a written statement before Oct. 30 to Sharon Morrissey, executive secretary, ERISA Advisory Council, U.S. Department of Labor, Suite N-5677, 200 Constitution Ave., N.W., Washington, D.C. 20210. Oral presentations are limited to 10 minutes but witnesses may submit an extended statement for the record.

Members of the public who do not wish to testify may submit 20 copies of their statement to the above address. Individuals with disabilities who need special accommodations should also contact the department by Oct. 30 at the address above.

The Advisory Council is a bipartisan group of 15 members appointed by the Secretary of Labor to represent a wide range of interests in the employee benefit area. The council advises and makes recommendations to the secretary on the administration of ERISA.
