EBSA Press Release: U.S. Department of Labor to Fill Five Vacancies on ERISA Advisory Council [08/04/1997]

The U.S. Department of Labor is seeking nominations for five vacancies on the Advisory Council on Employee Welfare and Pension Benefit Plans. The terms of the five council members expire Nov. 14, 1997.

The bipartisan advisory council has 15 members appointed by the Secretary of Labor representing broad categories of interests in the pension area. The council advises the secretary on the execution of departmental functions under the Employee Retirement Income Security Act (ERISA) and submits policy recommendations for the administration of ERISA. The council will meet at least four times each year and council recommendations to the secretary will be included in the Secretary's Annual Report to Congress.

The vacancies cover the fields of employee organizations (multiemployer plans), investment counseling, actuarial counseling, employers and the general public (pensioners).

In addition nominations are being sought to fill one year of an unexpired three-year term representing the employee organization (multiemployer)field.

Nominations for the positions should be submitted in writing by Oct. 1 to Sharon Morrissey, executive secretary, ERISA Advisory Council, Frances Perkins Building, U.S. Department of Labor, 200 Constitution Ave., N.W., Suite N-5677, Washington, D.C. 20210.

Nominations may be in the form of a letter, resolution or petition, signed by the person or by an authorized representative of the organization making the recommendation. The recommendation should identify the candidate by name, occupation or position and include a telephone number and address. It should also include a brief description of the candidate's qualifications, the group or field that he or she would represent, political affiliation and availability.
