EBSA Press Release: ERISA Advisory Council To Set 1997 Agenda [02/07/1997]

The Advisory Council on Employee Welfare and Pension Benefit Plans will hold its first public meeting of 1997 on Thursday, March 6, at the U.S. Department of Labor's Frances Perkins Building. The session will begin at 1:00 p.m. in the Secretary of Labor's Conference Room, S2508.

The Council will spend a major portion of the meeting determining what topics it will address for the year. In addition, five new members of the Council will be sworn in. They are:

  • J. Kenneth Blackwell of Cincinnati, Ohio, treasurer of the State of Ohio, representing the investment management community;
  • Michael R. Fanning of Washington, D.C., chief executive officer, Central Pension Fund International Union of Operating Engineers and Participating Employers, representing employee organizations;
  • Neil M. Grossman, vice president of legal and regulatory affairs, the Association of Private Pension and Welfare Plans (APPWP) in Washington as the employer representative;
  • Barbara Ann Uberti of Wilmington, Del., vice president of Wilmington Trust Company, as the corporate trust representative, and
  • Dr. Thomas J. Mackell, Jr., of Jackson, Wyo., executive vice president of Simms Capital Management, Inc. of Greenwich, Conn., representing the general public.

Members of the public (individuals or representatives of organizations), wishing to address the Council, may contact Sharon Morrissey, executive secretary of the Council, before February 27. They are encouraged to file written statements pertaining to any topic concerning ERISA and may submit 20 copies on or before that date with Ms. Morrissey, in Suite N-5677 at the U.S. Department of Labor, 200 Constitution Ave. N.W., Washington, D.C. 20210 or call her at 202-219-8753. The advisory council, comprised of 15 members named by the Secretary of Labor, submits policy recommendations concerning the implementation of the Employee Retirement Income Security Act (ERISA).
