US Department of Labor extends deadline for applications from graduating, recent law school graduates for fall 2023 Honors Program in Washington

WASHINGTON – The U.S. Department of Labor announced today that its Office of the Solicitor has extended the deadline for recent law school graduates to apply for its two-year Honors Program in Washington and earn unique experience in one of the federal government’s preeminent legal offices.

The department’s Office of the Solicitor employs approximately 550 attorneys who enforce and interpret labor standards and laws governing occupational and mine safety and health, civil rights, wages, pension and health benefits and other labor-related issues. Honors Program attorneys in Washington work at the department’s national headquarters. Upon program completion, Honors Program attorneys may continue their careers in either the Solicitor’s national or regional offices.

The department plans to hire up to approximately eight attorneys for the fall 2023 Honors Program in Washington. To be eligible, applicants must graduate from law school in spring or summer of 2023 or finish a fellowship or judicial clerkship in time to join the Honors Program in September 2023.

The selection process is highly competitive and consideration will be given to academic achievement, writing skills, law review or moot court experience, clinic or extracurricular activities, and demonstrated interest in government service or public interest law. 

All applications must be submitted on USAJOBS.gov. Applicants for the Honors Program in the Office of the Solicitor of Labor in Washington must be received by Sept. 30, 2022, at 11:59 p.m. EDT.
