US Department of Labor investigation of 21-year-old worker’s fatal fall finds Burleson roofing contractor again ignored fall safety requirement

HOUSTON – On Jan. 26, 2022, a 21-year-old roofing worker suffered fatal injuries after falling about 30 feet through a skylight atop a Houston building, a fatality that a Burleson contractor could have been prevented if they had heeded a U.S. Department of Labor citation issued one month earlier.

US Department of Labor begins rulemaking process to revise standards for occupational exposure to lead

WASHINGTONThe U.S. Department of Labor announced that its Occupational Safety and Health Administration has published an Advance Notice of Proposed Rulemaking to revise its standards for occupational exposure to lead.

Recent medical research on workplace lead exposure shows adverse health effects can occur in adults at lower blood lead levels than recognized previously in the medical removal levels specified in OSHA’s lead standards.

US Department of Labor cites 2 contractors after electrician preparing job bid suffers fatal fall at Caterpillar’s Mapleton foundry

PEORIA, IL – Federal workplace safety inspectors investigating the fatal fall of a 50-year-old journeyman electrician at Caterpillar’s Mapleton foundry have determined that the lead contractor and a nested Caterpillar electrical contractor exposed workers to fall hazards.

US Department of Labor cites Atlanta recycling company for continually exposing workers to chemical hazards, proposes $311K in penalties

ATLANTA – Federal workplace safety inspectors determined that an Atlanta recycling company exposed workers to hazardous chemicals without warning them of the risks. This is the third time since 2019 that the U.S. Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration cited the company for similar violations.

US Department of Labor reaches settlement agreement with Ohio insulation contractor to resolve citations after fatal fall, workers’ injuries in 2020

MARS, PA – An industrial insulation contractor in Ohio entered into a settlement agreement with the U.S. Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration to resolve litigation prompted by the findings of a June 2020 investigation into the fatal fall of one worker and serious injuries suffered by three others after they fell from a roof and scaffold at an indoor horse-riding facility in Mars.

ROBBINSVILLE, NJ – A U.S. Department of Labor investigation into the fatal fall of a contractor at a Robbinsville frozen food manufacturer identified a wide range of potentially fatal workplace hazards at CJ TMI Manufacturing America LLC, leading the department’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration to issue the employer citations for 36 violations and propose $368,513 in penalties.
