A new rule expands protections for America’s farmworkers

Our food supply relies on farmworkers, including hundreds of thousands on H-2A visas. Last week, Acting Secretary of Labor Julie Su announced a new final rule that will strengthen protections for workers under the H-2A program and similarly employed workers in the U.S.

We hosted several Workers Memorial Day events last week to honor those we have lost or who have been injured on the job, including a workplace safety expo for employers and workers to help prevent future tragedies. Families of workers killed on the job joined us for a ceremony and wreath laying at department headquarters. We grieve with them and resolve to continue the fight for safer workplaces.

Acting Secretary Su joined former Georgia House of Representatives minority leader Stacey Abrams, union leaders and community members in Atlanta last week. They discussed how federal funding is helping to create good jobs and support the nation’s clean energy transition. They also highlighted the administration’s commitment to ensuring diverse workers from marginalized communities have equitable access to jobs.

We’re making $6.5 million available in grants to help organizations improve their delivery of safe and sanitary housing solutions for migrant and seasonal farmworkers and their dependents.

We've added 16 new projects to our existing Megaproject program that promotes equal access to good jobs created by the Investing in America agenda.

Shan Shan turned her life around with the help of a reentry job-training program, showing how similar programs can help build a diverse and robust workforce.
