System for Award Management Formerly Central Contractor Registration

The System for Award Management (SAM) is an official website of the U.S. Government. There is no cost to use SAM.gov(link is external). You can use this site to:

  • Register to do business with the U.S. Government;
  • Update, renew, or check the status of your entity registration;
  • Search for entity registration and exclusion records;
  • Search for assistance listings (formerly CFDA.gov), wage determinations (formerly WDOL.gov), contract opportunities (formerly FBO.gov), and contract data reports (formerly part of FPDS.gov); and
  • Access publicly available award data via data extracts and system accounts.

All entities—that is, people or organizations seeking federal government funding must have a SAM registration to receive a Unique Entity ID (UEI). This UEI indicates that an entity can receive government funding and that federal employees can track funding awarded to the entity.  SAM registrations must be active and in good standing at the time of the proposal submission and throughout the life of the award.  Registrations must be updated every 12 months to remain active and there is no fee to register or renew at SAM.gov.

Successfully registering with SAM makes your business visible and accessible to every civilian and military federal agency out there who might otherwise not be aware of your business.

Should you need assistance with completing your registration, please contact the Federal Service Desk (FSD) toll free at (866) 606-8220 or go to FSD.gov(link is external) to find answers about SAM registration in FSD's Answer Center.
