How to File a Claim if You Were Hurt on the Job (Federal Employees)

If you are a Federal Employee, you may file a claim for benefits under the Federal Employees' Compensation Act (FECA). To file a workers' compensation claim, you must first register for an Employees' Compensation Operations and Management Portal (ECOMP) account. ECOMP is a free web-based application. For an instructional video and further guidance on registering for an account, click here. You do not need approval from your supervisor or anyone else at your agency to initiate your FECA workers' compensation claim.

In ECOMP, following your completion of Form 301 (if your agency utilizes), you will be able to file either Form CA-1 'Notice of Traumatic Injury' (incident or activity occurring during one work shift) or Form CA-2 'Notice of Occupational Disease' (medical condition resulting from an incident or activity occurring over more than one work shift). For an instructional video and further guidance on filing the Form CA-1 or CA-2, click here. View a claim process infographic for a high-level overview and timelines.

Need to upload a document?

Stakeholders and interested parties can use ECOMP to upload documents to active FECA cases. You can upload letters, medical reports and other supporting documentation. You will need the official FECA Case Number and other identifying information to use this feature.

Do not upload Medical or Travel reimbursement forms (OWCP-915, OWCP-957). Doing so will unnecessarily delay the processing of your reimbursement claim. Medical or Travel reimbursement forms must be mailed to OWCP/DFELHWC-FECA, P.O. Box 8300, London, KY 40742-8300.

Medical Providers:

  • Only medical reports can be submitted in ECOMP.

Do not upload bills in ECOMP as they will not be processed.
  • Easily submit medical bills and reports in one electronic transaction using our free Direct Data Entry or Secure FTP. Refer to this Quick Guide for detailed steps. Learn all your options by clicking here.
