Title: Understanding Attitudes on Paid Family Leave: Discussions with Parents and Caregivers in California, New Jersey and Rhode Island

Posted: July 21, 2016

Abstract:  Researchers conducted seven focus groups – four caregiver groups and three parent groups – in the three states with existing paid leave laws (California, New Jersey, and Rhode Island), to gauge awareness of paid leave laws among a pool of likely beneficiaries, and to understand perceived benefits and barriers to taking paid leave. With quantitative data suggesting low levels of awareness of paid leave benefits across populations in these states, the researchers targeted groups with the potential for high 'need' to use the benefit, and even among this group of likely beneficiaries, they found awareness that paid leave benefits existed to be low.
