Publication Info

This demonstration to test strategies for promoting continuing education and training among mature incumbent workers (individuals age 25 and over with recent work experience) was initiated by the Department of Labor. A targeted public information campaign was conducted to provide information on the benefits of additional education and training and financial aid options, and to make it easier for the targeted workers to obtain information about education and training opportunities at local educational institutions. The evaluation used both randomly assigned treatment and control groups to measure the impacts of the information campaign on school enrollments, the number of credits earned, and the receipt and amount of Federal Direct Student Loans (FDSLs). The demonstration provided a rich source of information for analyzing questions relating to the education and training activities of mature incumbent workers.
