Section 171 of the Workforce Investment Act (WIA) of 1998 requires the Secretary of Labor to submit, every two years, a plan that describes demonstration and pilot, multiservice, research and multistate projects that focus on priorities for the Department of Labor concerning employment and training for the five-year period following the plan. The plan provides a strategic vision for research efforts based on input from government, business and academia experts. The Five-Year Research, Demonstration and Evaluation Strategic Plan for 2007-2012 is composed of three major sections: 1) Description of a sampling of research, demonstration and evaluation projects conducted in the previous five years (2002-2007); 2) Description of a select sampling of current research, demonstration and evaluation projects; and 3) Description of the six priority areas for research, demonstration and evaluation projects for the next five-year period (2007-2012).
