Section 171 of the Workforce Investment Act (WIA) of 1998 requires the Secretary of Labor to submit, every two years, a plan that describes demonstration and pilot, multiservice, research and multistate projects that focus on priorities for the Department of Labor concerning employment and training for the five-year period following the plan.  The plan provides a strategic vision for research efforts based on input from government, business and academia experts.  The Five-Year Research, Demonstration and Evaluation Strategic Plan for 2007-2012 is composed of three major sections: 1) Description of a sampling of research, demonstration and evaluation projects conducted in the previous five years (2002-2007); 2) Description of a select sampling of current research, demonstration and evaluation projects; and 3) Description of the six priority areas for research, demonstration and evaluation projects for the next five-year period (2007-2012).  The plan was developed in accordance with the requirements of Section 171.  Specific projects under the six priority areas will be identified and determined each program year and planned for in accordance with available resources.
